BullCon 2020 Speaker Adrienne Lawrence, “Staying in the Game: The Playbook for Beating Workplace Sexual Harassment”

BullCon 2020 is a women’s leadership conference where career badassery and feminism intersect.  BullCon operates on the belief that leadership is not a position or a title it is action and example, which is why it is the place for feminists who want to make the world and the workplace better.

We could not be more excited to have Adrienne Lawrence speak at BullCon this year.  Adrienne is a fierce and brave woman who has in sharing her story, given us a guidebook for beating workplace sexual harassment. We caught up with Adrienne for a little Q & A to get to know her better.

Hi Adrienne, first we’d like to express how happy we are that you’re joining us for BullCon 2020!  So much to talk about!  We know that you were the first on-air personality to sue ESPN for sexual harassment and retaliation.  Can you tell us about your personal journey throughout that experience?  What inspired you to take action?

When sexual harassment at ESPN interrupted my career as an anchor and legal analyst, I looked for books with practical guidance on what to do. Finding nothing but unrelatable memoirs and unhelpful legal manuals, I set out to write the book that I needed—and that every young professional needs.

You’re coming out with a book in May!  Can you tell us about Staying in the Game: The Playbook for Beating Workplace Sexual Harassment?

STAYING IN THE GAME (TarcherPerigee, May 2020) is a first-of-its-kind, comprehensive sexual harassment survival guide that covers everything—from how to identify ‘harassholes’ and spot sexual harassment hotbeds, to how to best leverage media and lawyer up, all while staying sane and surviving cyber-scandal through the process. Backed by a wealth of research and bolstered by a range of expert advice, this book is an engaging and informative read with essential wisdom for any young professional who values their career—no matter their path, position, or experience with harassment.

STAYING IN THE GAME is the all-encompassing resource for every professional, offering coveted, game-changing guidance. And I am exactly the sage and savvy friend, and empathetic, well-informed ally who today’s targets and bystanders need. Offering lessons learned from my own experiences, as well as wisdom from across industries, I make this book widely relatable and its insight a pleasure to read.

Can you tell us more about your BullCon Presentation?  Who should attend your talk and what will they learn along the way?

My presentation will offer a primer on the vital aspects of sexual harassment and beating it. I’d highly recommend any professional woman attend my talk.

Can you talk to us about an impactful moment in your career?

A moment in my career that was impactful was the moment I secured my book deal with Penguin Random House imprint TarcherPerigee. I always knew I’d write a book someday, but never expected it to be a business book on sexual harassment and for that book to be a first-of-its-kind survival guide. Securing the book deal was a grateful moment that made me realize why I had to experience all of the disruption and ensuing trauma in my professional life.

And lastly, can you tell us one quirky or unexpected thing about you?

I’m trained in hostage negotiation.
