I’ve noticed lately that ladyblogs (and Etsy stores) tend to sport names that follow very particular conventions, much as English pub names tend to follow certain patterns (The Horse and Groom, The Red Lion, The King’s Arms). For instance, Cupcakes and Cashmere has a second book out.
Here’s how to name your ladyblog.
List A: Girly Materials
roses, tulips, etc.
lip gloss / lipstick
List B: Humble Natural Objects
Beauty, fashion, party planning blog?
Pick two from List A. Examples: Sequins and High Heels, Glitter and Cake, Champagne and Sparkles.
Graphic designer, Etsy shop, Very Serious Person?
Pick two from List B. Examples: Pebble and Wren. Thistle and Moss. Twig and Crow.
Deep personal thoughts you’d like to share about seeing both the good and bad in life?
Pick one from each list. Examples: Sparkle and Thistle. Pebbles and Sequins. Barnwood and Cupcakes.
Now you’ve named your ladyblog!
Notes: Twine is not quite a natural object, but you get the idea. Also, despite quiche being gendered food in American culture, very few ladyblog names refer to it (same with brie). To show how down-home you are, take any of the above words and replace with “flip-flops.”
